PTA President’s Message November 2015
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we would like to take this opportunity to show our gratitude for our Kellogg School community. We appreciate the opportunity to be involved with the Kellogg families and staff, and we are thankful for the partnership in enriching our children’s school experience.
We are excited to announce the launch of the Kellogg Annual Giving campaign—and it’s going to be an EL NIÑO year! To supplement district funds for our PE, music, art, computer, and science programs—and continue to provide funds for other school events and support classrooms—we are encouraging each Kellogg family to support the campaign with a donation of $225. We are striving for 100% participation from our families, so please give what you can, whether above or below the $225 amount. Each class that has more than 50% of its students contribute (any amount) by November 20 will receive a principal’s recess. The class with the highest dollar amount donated will receive a movie party. Thank you to Beth Allin and Michele Bednash for spearheading the campaign.
We had many exciting events in the past month. It was a pleasure to see so many students—and our school mascot—walking, biking, skateboarding, scooting, and bussing to school at our first BOW WOW! We encourage families to continue to leave their cars at home every Wednesday and find alternative safe routes to school. Thank you to Kristin Rogers and our Garden Educator Mentor Ava Ellis for organizing the fall Garden Work Day. Kellogg families showed up to rake, shovel, and weed in the garden and planted drought-tolerant succulents around campus. Thank you to Bobby Kendall for assisting with the school-wide California Great Shake Out drill, and a huge thanks to science specialist Rebecca Holland for organizing the annual Family Science Night as well as all the families who brought food for the presenters and/or were presenters themselves. We had another successful Kellogg night at Chaucer’s Bookstore thanks to Angelena Plowman, our first BoxTops drive came to a close with the help of Aimee Buell, and Amy Jamieson completed our annual membership drive. Thanks to the families who participated in our Family Portrait Fundraiser with EMI Photography as well as Paul Warmath for coordinating the times. We appreciate Julie Swenson’s help with the PTA Reflections program and Rachael Amundsen for coordinating the Innisbrook fundraiser benefiting the 6th grade.
Don’t forget that if you plan to do your holiday shopping on Amazon.com, you can help Kellogg earn a percentage back through the Kellogg Amazon Associates Program. Simply type http://j.mp/kellogg-aap in your web browser or go to Kellogg’s School website and select “Kellogg Amazon Associates Program” under the “PTA” tab. A huge thank you to Karen van Gool and Bradley Pirman for enabling our school to participate in this program.
We hope to see you all at the next PTA Association Meeting on Tuesday, November 3, at 7pm in the MPR when we welcome our special guest speaker, UCSB professor Dr. Michael Furlong, who will discuss the topic of social emotional development.
As always, if you ever have any questions about the PTA, volunteer opportunities, or ideas for new events or programs, please feel free to get in touch with us.
