Finally it is beginning to feel a little bit more like the fall season we are most accustomed to. With fall comes the opportunity for parents to participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences and share in a discussion about their child(ren)’s progress over the first trimester of school. The district has recently sent information regarding the new report card and how teachers are finding the best way to adapt the new math program as well as the current English Language Arts Program to this piloting period. We are hopeful that rather than spend time sharing concerns about the actual format of the document that parents and teachers can focus on strengths and areas of improvement that can be worked on in the upcoming months. Please help teachers out by arriving on time to your conference. They have put much effort into planning for your child’s conference. This is a optimal time to listen, ask questions, and collaborate on ways that you can assist in your child’s learning at home.
Parents are also reminded of the November 11th Veteran’s Day Holiday as well as the 12:00 dismissal time for the week of Parent-Teacher Conferences. For the second year, our Goleta Union students will have a full week off for Thanksgiving break. This makes for a very quick month.
The Kellogg community will again be participating in our Community of Friends campaign in which our Goleta Union families in need across the district receive boxes of food items and gift cards to help with the upcoming holiday. We hope to also participate in the Toys for Tots campaign as in years’ past. Watch ParentSquare and your child’s Friday Folder for more information. Our student council members will be helping to spread the word and pass out food collection baskets for classrooms. Gift card requests will be displayed in the office beginningNovember 16th. This is a great way to help our students learn the concept of gratitude and helping others. Please take this opportunity to help those in need both in our own Kellogg community as well as beyond.
As always, if I can be of assistance, please feel free to email me or make an appointment to meet with me. We have a great community when it comes to contributing toward our students’ learning and making decisions that impact others in positive ways.
